My Inquiry:

Dear Pet Smart,

I love your store and shop there all the time for my pet needs. But I cannot seem to find a shock collar with a high enough voltage for my bobcat. I need him to stop growling at the neighbors in the apartment complex and the collar that you sold me doesn’t seem to be working. Now I have to keep him inside where he poops all over the place and eats off of my plate. One time I slapped him on the nose and he growled so loud I thought it was going to wake mine and my wife’s six-month old baby. Do you have higher voltage collars? Or can you order them online? That is where I got my bobcat. Or a tranquilizer gun? At least I won’t have to feed him most of my Ambien any longer. Just one shot and it’s bedtime. If you can help me out, please do. Otherwise, I might have to donate him to a zoo or something, which is cruel, as you well know. Thank you Pet Smart. You are the smartest, and cleanest, of the pet shops in McCallen. Please get in touch with me regarding this.

Regards,

Rick Cabrera

Their response:

Dear Rick,

Thank you for contacting PetSmart regarding training collars. Though we have nothing labeled as shock collars, we do have bark control collars available. We have included the link below for you to see if there is a collar to your liking:

If you have any other questions or need additional information, please let us know. Thank you for shopping with PetSmart for all your pet supply needs.

My Response:

Dear Keith,

Thank you for your quick response on this urgent matter. The sound from Jim (the bobcat, named after my father, who died of a heart attack last September), is more of a growl than a bark, and its very loud. Will they generally be able to handle the sound of a growl? And also, I did not see any collars on the website with remote controls. It would be nice to have a remote controlled bark collar, just in case he’s getting too close to the baby. Sometime when we haven’t fed him for bad behavior, he gets this look in his eyes and stares at the crib for hours. This is why we had to get a steel reinforced crib and place a locked grating atop it (well also so the baby doesn’t crawl out when we’re not home, if ya know what I mean). Just telling Jim “No! Stay away from the baby!” doesn’t seem to work. Please help me with this matter, and guide me towards the remote controlled bark collars. I really don’t want to give him to a zoo. As I previously stated, my family really thinks Pet Smart is second to none, and we shop there for all the pet needs we have had in the past. Thank you so very much.

Rick Cabrera

Dear Rick,

Thank you for your email. We truly appreciate you taking the time to visit our site and to write to us. PetSmart.com is the Internet direct marketing division of PetSmart Inc. While many of us have pets of our own, we are not qualified to respond to pet care questions. For your pet’s safety and well-being, please consult an associate in your local PetSmart store or your veterinarian, as they will be better equipped to help you with your questions. My Response:

Dear Randall,

Thank you for your expedient help and guidance. But I still haven’t found what Im looking for. But I did find a way to solve my problem with your products. I can engineer a state-of-the-art bark collar using just a few Pet Smart products. If I connect the Top Paw Titan Chrome Dog Leash up to the Sunbeam Remote Static Dog Trainer, and maybe use the High Tech Sofa Scram Pet Deterrent as an extra power source, I will be able to turn the bark collar into to a high voltage shock collar to keep the bobcat away from my baby. You guys should really consider this as a new product. Of course, it wont have the functionality I was looking for in a remote shock collar, but it will work for a reasonable distance and possibly save the lives of many children victimized by bobcats. I thank you so much for your commitment to customer service and I will forever be in the debt of Pet Smart for solving my problem. Thank you.
