My Response:

Dear Christina,

First off, thank you for being a great apartment staff. My girlfriend lives in your complex and has great things to say about the establishment. You guys are always accommodating and helpful. Every year, I participate in Civil War reenactments, and I love them. Unfortunately, this year we have no place to have one, so I suggested my girlfriend’s apartment complex, knowing surely that you guys support the war that freed the slaves. The pool area, despite the chlorine smell, will be the best place I believe. I would also like you to do me the favor of recruiting new members to join in the reenactment. We do not have the needed numbers of yankees to defeat the confederates, and if that’s the case, the south will be victorious and keep their slaves. I will be posting flyers all around the complex and would be forever indebted to you if you mentioned it to tenants when they come to the office. Thank you for your generosity.

Regards,

Rick Cabrera

Their response:

Hello Rick,

Thank you for the delighted compliments. I am glad your girlfriend loves her home! that is great to read. I am glad you have a passion for history reenactments. Unfortunately at this time we cannot participate in your project here at eastside commons. And I cannot allow you or anyone to post any flyers all around the property. Perhaps you can spread the word about your plans to some of your friends? Hope you have a great day!

My Response

Hi Christina,

Thanks for your expedient reply. I’d love to live at the Eastside Commons. I understand the concern about having the reenactment around the pool. Somebody could possibly get hurt and drown, especially if we use the usual paintball guns. But the gazebo area or parking lot would also work. I took your great suggestion and have spread the word about this plan to many of my friends. I have had a few respondents to the flyers that I have already put up, but most of them want to be on the Confederate side, which is unacceptable. With all the commentary on racism in the news, I don’t understand why someone would want to support the slaveowners. The few flyers I put up seemed to have been removed, which is good, meaning that people are interested. I must also thank you for allowing me to ask the tenants who come to the office. But we should not give them the option of being Confederates when we speak to them. I understand that we live in the south, but the desire to associate with slaveowners is abhorrent, in my opinion. We need Yankees so the reenactment doesn’t end up counterfactual. I hope you are doing well and I thank you for your generosity and help. I will see you soon. Thanks.

Regards,

Rick Cabrera

Their response:

I’m sorry you misunderstood me the first time Rick. We cannot allow you to approach the residents that live here about your project. And we cannot allow you to hold or start any kind of operation on our property.
